On a severely difficult day for Europe and for all of humanity, when war is coming alive around us, the universality of Beethoven’s art, expressed through Currentzis’ insight, comes timelessly and brightly to remind us that fraternity and peace are the cornerstone of our humanity. In Beethoven’s 9th stands all human civilisation.
The iconic evening, which took place at the Athens Concert Hall on 19/20 February 2022 and includes Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, will be available in a few hours on ARTE channel from today and for 90 days.
“Rock star” of classical music Teodor Currentzis knows how to celebrate and direct classical music like few others. In this way he reaches a much younger audience and appeals to many who otherwise have little or no inclination towards classical music.
With his gaze turned on the great German composer Ludwig van Beethoven, the award-winning master conductor brings out his own idiosyncratic approach to the Ninth Symphony; one of the brightest gems in the classical repertoire.
