Key Messages & Learnings from the 2nd New Eleusis Symposion

The 2nd New Eleusis Symposium, themed “Mysteries of Flourishing”, concluded successfully from September 25-27, 2023, at the historic IRIS paint factory in Eleusis. Organized by the World Human Forum in partnership with Eleusis 2023 European Capital of Culture, the symposium gathered notable scientists, artists, intellectuals, academics, and civil society leaders from around the world. They explored the concept of eudaimonia—flourishing—in today’s world, discussing how it can be pursued individually and collectively.

The symposium centered on three action pillars: community empowerment, policy influence, and mindset transformation.

  1. Community Empowerment emphasized motivating local citizens in Eleusis as advocates of change, aiming to strengthen the community as a central focus for future symposia.
  2. Policy Influence focused on crafting innovative policies that intersect technology and human well-being, addressing issues such as screen addiction, end-of-life care, and the use of arts for mental and physical therapy. These strategies highlighted the role of neuroaesthetics and neuroarts in fostering flourishing.
  3. Shifting Mindsets aimed to encourage a transformative shift in individual and collective attitudes, fostering an inclusive narrative for a new ecological civilization.

Participants engaged in a transformative experience over the three days, inspired by Eleusis’s legacy of fostering harmony between life, death, and coexistence. The symposium connected ancient values with modern interpretations of flourishing, offering insights not only for Eleusis and Greece but for the global community.

For those who were unable to attend the 2nd New Eleusis Symposion, the World Human Forum will soon make all the talks available on its official YouTube channel and website, allowing everyone to participate in this journey toward Flourishing.

In September 2025, the World Human Forum will return with the 3rd International Symposium, once again at the “IRIS” venue, as well as in other iconic locations around the city, ensuring that Eleusis remains relevant and its legacy as a Cultural Capital of Europe stays alive.
